2019 Budget: Suspended Nigeria’s National Carrier Gets N8.7 billion

Despite suspending her National Carrier, the Nigerian government has made provision for the sum of N8.7 billion for it in the 2019 budget.

This is even as the project was suspended after Mr. Hadi Sirika, the country Minister of Aviation launched the carrier logo in July last year at Farnborough International Airshow in London.

Analysis of the budget shows that N8 billion was set aside for working capital for the national carrier.

This is a novel add up to the transport ministry budget.

However, N500 million is to be expended on the appointment of transaction advisers while N200 million will be for consultancy fee for setting up the national carrier.

Mr. Lai Mohammed, the Nigeria minister of information, defending the government action, said the suspension became necessary in order not to scare investors away.

It is, however, not clear why such huge sum will be allocated to project the government has since suspended and said she is not interested in pursuing.
