The Media Advocacy West Africa Foundation (MAWA-Foundation) having spoken to some passengers that witnessed the Abuja-Kaduna train attack on Tuesday, calls on the Nigerian government to drop lies and face reality
Mr. Fidet Okhiria, the Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) Managing Director, in defence of the government, reacting to the incident said there was no attack on the train, but admitted hoodlums threw stones at it that shattered the glasses.
According to Okhiria,” it was hoodlums who threw stones at the train.
Also, the Manager Abuja-Kaduna Train Service, Paschal Nnorli, denied any attack on the train
According to Nnorli, “This news is false. In between Asham and Kubwa sections, some hoodlums threw stones and broke the windscreen of our locomotive.
MAWA Foundation is worried that the government who could not protect the train and the passengers on board was quick to dismiss the attack describing it as a mere throwing of stones.
We wish to state categorically that we have spoken to some of the passengers on board the train when the attack happened and they confirmed it lasted for 20 minutes while they were told to lie on the floor so they will not be hit by bullets.
We are worried that the government has accepted as normal for hoodlums to attack trains with stones.
The government must admit, whether stones or bullets, the train was attacked and Nigerians deserve to be protected by the government that has sworn an oath to protect their lives and properties.
We appeal to the government to immediately stop the obvious denial and begin to think alternative means of providing security that is continually eluding the Nigerian state.
