Akwa Ibom State University suspends student who called VC a fool on Facebook

Miss. Joy Nkanang, a student of Akwa Ibom state university has been suspended indefinitely for calling the institution Vice Chancellor idiot on Facebook.

The university student was in the  department of performing arts before her suspension on May 9th.

Nkanang on the 5th of this month on her facebook timeline wrote, “AKSU what is happening? A dry cleaners shop was robbed last night along college road….”

The post was in connection with the rising cases of cultism in the university, this newspaper learned.

A post that generated lost of reactions, including one of those reacting to the post calling for a protest against insecurity in the university.

Responding to the post, Nkanang wrote, “No…. we don’t want to spoil the schools image…. foolish Vice Chancellor.

In the suspension letter, the university say its attention has been drawn to a statement calling Vice Chancellor a fool.

The institution say her action is a gross misconduct and breach of matriculation oath.

The university say Nkanang will remain suspended from the university till all investigation is concluded.

Mr. John Udo, the university Registrar  who signed the suspension letter say, Nkanang admitted before a disciplanry committee that she call the vice chancellor a foolish man.

However, inside source who witnessed the process, say the student was not given an opportunity for a fair hearing.

“At the end of the meeting, they told her she is dismissed from school. She knelt down and begged, but nobody listened to her,” the source said.

Mrs Akaninyene Ibanga, the university spokesperson told Premium Times, an online newspaper,   Nkanang may be recalled or expelled from the university depending on the outcome of the case.

Mr. Eno Ibanga, a professor, is the university Vice Chancellor.
