Almajiri, Herdsmen no threat to Imo, stop blackmailing them – Uzodinma

Mr. Hope Uzodinma, the Imo State Governor has said Almajiri and Herdsmen are no threat to Imo state and her people while appealing to the opposition party to stop blackmailing them.

The governor made this known while addressing journalists at the Imo State Government House, at Owerri, the state capital on Friday.

The governor assured Imo residents that the Almajri and Herdsmen in the state are peace-loving people and do not constitute any threat whatsoever, hence assuring them of peace and security in all areas of the state.

“There is no truth in the story that Herdsmen and Alimajiri are waiting in a forest for an appropriate time to attack the Imo people”.

“It is a wicked rumour mastermind by the opposition. Imo people should go about their normal business as there is no cause for alarm. The government is on top of the security situation in the state.”

As a result of the outbreak of coronavirus, and the lockdown witnessed across states in Nigeria, there has been a huge influx of Almajiri from the northern part of the county to the southern and eastern parts.

However, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu, the self-acclaimed leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, had alleged that Northern youth had earlier planned to evade and attack the Igbo nation using Almajiri as a disguise.

Ha also claimed that the Northern leaders under the umbrella of Arewa were exporting coronavirus infected Almajiri to kill the Igbo people in Southeast.

A claim he has not been able to substantiate.
