Anti-corruption fight, Nigeria’s First Lady loses N1 billion to govt

Mrs.  Patience Jonathan, wife to Mr.  Goodluck Jonathan, former Nigerian President will forfeited N1 billion to the country central government.

This development is coming as a result of court ruling in a case brought before it by the Nigeria main anti corruption agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The said fund was deposited in one of the Nigeria banks, Fidelity Bank Plc.

Mr. Lewis-Allagoa, judge of a federal high court sitting at Kano granted the order.

The fund was laundered using Magel Resort Limited, a company linked to Patience Jonathan.

Lewis-Allagoa held that: “An interim forfeiture order is granted to the Federal Government in the sum of N1,000,494,000 (One Billion, Four Hundred and Ninety Four Thousand Naira Only) in the Bank account of the 1st respondent Magel Resort Limited 4011019546 which is maintained with 2nd respondent Fidelity Bank Plc”.

In the ruling, the court directed that the forfeited fund be deposited in the treasury single account belonging to the central government.
