Ifeanyi Uba football club was on Friday attacked in Kogi state at about 1:30 pm while on their way to Kano for their Nigeria Premier League match against the Jigawa Golden Stars.
Armed group dressed in NYSC uniform attacked them at Kabba junction, close to Lokoja, the Kogi state capital.
Although no life was lost, however, the driver of the football club team was shot while some members of the coaching crew and players were critically injured.
Mr. Mike Ibe who spoke to MAWA Foundation, who refused to disclosed his designation, said the players ran into armed men dressed in NYSC uniform and were brutality attacked.
He said they made efforts to call on the police, but were not given any assistance. He however disclosed that those injured are currently receiving treatment in an undisclosed hospital.
Kogi state police command are yet to make official statement regarding the attack.
