Bello Kogi gov collects N45.5 million  application fees, refuses to pay students bursary

Mr. Yahaya Bello, Kogi Governor has refused to pay bursary to Kogi state students after collecting the sum of N45. 5 million from students who applied for the bursary.

70, 000 students paid N650 each as application fee for the bursary.

Application that was closed since one year and some months now, no Kogi state student has been given penny as a state bursary this newspaper learned.

A situation that has made the Association of Indigenous Students of Kogi state on Friday  to ask Bello to pay the bursary or refund N650 students application fee.

In the month of June this year, Mr. Edward Onoja, the State Chief of Staff said the bursary will be paid.

A promise that was never fulfilled.

The state Governor opened an online portal asking all indigenous students to apply for a bursary.

Students were charged the sum of N650 as an application fee.

WEST AFRICA REPORTERS (WAR) checks shows that N70,000 students applied for the bursary and paid N650 each.

A year and several months after, no bursary was paid and application fees not refunded to the students.

Mr. Joshua Omonu,  Special Senior Adviser to Kogi state governor on students affairs, said the bursary will be paid in the month of September.

A promise that has since been failed and was not fulfilled.

In a letter seen by WAR, the students are asking the state Governor to pay them their bursary or refund their N650 each used for the application.
