Mr. Yahaya Bello, the Kogi Governor has been caught holding secret meeting with Accord party in his plan to dump the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) for Accord party.
This is coming as a result of the likelihood that his party will not give him ticket to run for the November governorship election, ThisDay Newspaper has reported.
WEST AFRICA REPORTERS (WAR) learned that the move to deny Bello ticket is as a result of petitions from groups and individuals to the National Working Committee of APC warning them that Bello performed below average and attempt to give him ticket means the party losing the state.
The Governor was reported to have removed the APC flags hoisted in the premises of Government House.
This Newspaper learned that Bello has renovated the Accord Party secretariat and has held secret meeting with party members.
In 2015, Bello had Accord party as his alternative before he was called to replace Mr. Abubakar Audu, who won the state Governor election under the platform of APC, but died before the election was announced by the Independent national Electoral Commission (INEC).
Insider sources close to Bello disclosed the governor said some influential forces close to Buhari have adviced him to dump APC and move to another party.
Bello say those that advised him to leave APC say some forces are against him getting the party ticket.
Another insider source, say Mr. Samuel Ortom, the Benue Governor has also advised Bello to leave APC for another party.
Those advising Bello to leave APC have since agreed to give him all needed support when he contests the November governorship election in another party, this Newspaper learned.
There are over 10 petitions from groups and individuals to the APC National Working Committee asking that Bello should not be giving ticket, this Newspaper learned.
Among the petitioners, Kogi Rescue Mission, who made its petition available to the press say, Bello “abysmal style of leadership has further subjected the state to political and economic hemorrhage.”
Led by Mr. Ali Dan, the group Nation President, the group described Yahaya Bello administration as a threat to people’s welfare and the economic prosperity of Kogi State.
Senior officials at APC National Secretariat say it is going to be difficult for Bello to get the party ticket. Some spoken to say, what the party national leadership is determined to do is to enable all aspirants to go into free, fair and credible party primary contest.
They however dismissed the idea of the national leadership of the party endorsing any candidate.
When ThisDay south Bello explanation, Mr. Muhammed Onogwu, his Chief Press Secretary, did not pick calls and could not return text messages sent to his phone.
