BREAKING: Amaechi escapes as kidnappers attack Abuja-Kaduna train passengers

A huge number of passengers onboard Abuja-Kaduna train, including Mr. Rotimi Amaechi, the Nigerian Minister of Transportation, on Sunday evening escaped an attack by kidnappers, Daily Nigerian reports.

Sources say the kidnappers hid at the Mando area and made effort to abduct passengers who arrived at Rigasa train station at about around 8:15 pm.

Sources said the kidnappers opened fire on the passengers, while the timely intervention of the police and army prevented them from taking the passengers.

WEST AFRICA REPORTERS (WAR) learned that the army used armoured vehicles to stop the kidnappers by chasing them away.

“We were lucky the police and soldiers are nearby to come to our rescue. The minister of Transport Rotimi Amaechi was among the passengers. His convoy had to make a detour onto Rigasa road,” said a passenger, Musa Lawan.

Mr. Mohammed Jalige, the Kaduna Police Command spokesperson, who could not immediately confirm the incident, said he will find out what happened.
