The new appointment of Emirs by Mr. Ganduje Abdullahi, the Kano state governor has been declared illegal by the court.
A Kano State High Court sitting at Ungogo on Wednesday declared the appointments of the four new emirs null and void.
Mr. Nasiru Saminu, the presiding judge, ruling in the case directed all parties in the suit to maintain status quo pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.
The governor had on the 8th day of this month created four additional emirates with First Class emirs in the state.
An action many see as an attempt for the governor to victimize Mr. Sanusi Lamido, the Emir of Kano for playing partisan politics and supporting the People Democratic Party in the just concluded state governorship election.
Mr. Rabiu Saleh Gwarzo, had gone to court challenging the creation of the new Emirs.
The Kano state kingmakers on Tuesday had also gone to court to challenge the action of the action.
A move they say distorts the state Emirates history.
The court had last week given an order to the governor asking him not to split the emirate.
Despite the order, the governor appointed the Emirs and gave them staff of office while denying receiving any other from the court.
