The Nigerian Ports Authority a Federal Government Agency that governs and operates the Ports in Nigeria has been caught in the act collecting bribe before it clears goods from the Wharf.
Mr. Ahmed Musa, Chairman, Brekete Family Live Radio Program has narrated how the Port Authority collected N700,000 from him to clear his goods imported from Germany.
Musa during a radio program “Breke Radio Live Show” said the security personnel comprising army, police, Navy and Civil Defence collected N700,000 from him before clearing his trailer load of goods he imported from Germany.
Ahmed said, there are over 700 trailers lined up in Wharf to collect goods, he narrated how those who cannot pay bribe being sought by Port Officials were asked to go behind, while those who paid are asked to come forward and get cleared.
Your ability to lift goods out of Wharf is dependent on your ability to pay the bribe price.
Musa said, when his driver drew the attention of an army officer who was insisting they must pay the bribe sum of the implication of collecting bribe, the army said Mr. Mohammadu Buhari, the Nigeria President is aware of the bribe being collected at the Wharf.
“You can report us to Buhari, he is aware of what is going on here, he knows we collect bribe” an army told the Tanker driver.
Musa has since vowed to work with the relevant authority to fish those behind the bribe collection out.
WEST AFRICA REPORTERS (WAR) could not immediately reach Mr. Garba Shehu, the President spokesperson for explanation.
