CLEEN Foundation Holds Human Rights Accountability Workshop

The CLEEN Foundation with support from the Open Society Foundation (OSF) held Inter-Agency Collaboration Workshop for State and Non-State Actors on Improving Human Rights Compliance in Countering Violence Extremism.

The workshop that was held in Maiduguri, Borno state capital, commenced on Tuesday and lasted for three days.

The event brought together, security personnel from the military, Nigeria Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, to dialogue on how to uphold and respect human rights in the state counter-insurgency operations.

Participants at the workshop hailed CLEEN Foundation and Open Society Foundation (OSF) for organizing the workshop that brought stakeholders together to discuss and ensure synergy and understanding between state and non-state actors in the fight against insurgency.

Others participants at the workshop were, National Human Rights Commission, Police Service Commission, the Civilian Joint Task Force, Vigilante Association of Nigeria, Hunters Association, the Academia, religious groups and members of Civil Society Organisations.

ACP Markus Ishaku Basiran, the Head Complaint Response Unit (CRU), a unit created and assigned the responsibility of resolving complaints against police officers in Nigeria, told participants at the event, and also appealed to other Nigerians, to ensure they report human rights violations and other abuse by police officer to (CRU), assuring that the police address any issue of human rights violation that is reported.
