A Nigerian lawmaker Mr. Chukwuemeka Ujam may have been caught in the act of shortchanging his constituency. Mr. Ujam, representing the people of Enugu East Senatorial district may have pocketed the sum of N30 million meant for the construction of three classrooms in Ihune Kwagu Akpugo community at Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu East Senatorial District.
Ujam had in 2017 nominated the sum of N30 million, a sum he said will be used for the construction of classrooms.
When Tracka a Nigerian civic organization working to ensure quality government project delivery visited the community to monitor the project, it was discovered the project was not implemented.
Tracka team during their visit interacted with the school headmaster, community youth and the traditional ruler to educate them on the project.
The traditional ruler, school headmaster and community residents confirmed that the project was not executed.
Although the project was meant to expand the school, only four blocks of classrooms still exist in the school.
Despite the school has only four classrooms, one of the rooms was being used as an administrative office, leaving the school with only three classrooms.
When Tracka sought the explanation of Mr. Chukwuemeka Ujam, on how the monies he nominated for the school project was expended. He refused to provide any answers.
