The Plateau State University chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has donated hand sanitisers and nose masks to Butura community of Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau.
Butura is the community housing the University.
Presenting the items on Thursday in Bokkos, Dr. Bentse Pamson, chairman of ASUU in the University, said the gesture aimed at supporting government efforts in stemming down the spread of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) in the state.
Pamson added that the gesture was part of the Union’s Cooperate Social Responsibility (CSR), adding that it is its intervention strategy to curb community transmission of Covid-19.
Pamson explained that the monies used in producing the items came from the personal contribution of members.
“We are gathered this afternoon to present our little token to support government’s efforts in fighting Covid-19 in our host community and state in general.
“ASUU as a union is not concern about its welfare alone but the growth of the entire society; so, what we are doing here today is part of our cooperate social responsibility.
“It is part of our intervention strategy in curbing the spread of the global pandemic because we believe it will stem down community transmission.
“So, we are here to present hand sanitisers and nose masks to our host community for the benefit of rural dwellers,” he said.
Receiving the item on behalf of the community, Chairman of the council, Mr. Yusuf Machem, thanked the donors for the gesture, adding that it was timely.
He assured that the items will get to the desired population.
WAR reports that some of the items were equally donated to the management of the local government and other groups in the locality
