Crisis hits Federal Lokoja Varsity as host community protest employment non inclusion

Crisis is in ongoing at the Federal University Lokoja as the institution host community is protesting their non inclusion in the employment recently conducted by the school management.

The host community are accusing the University Vice Chancellor of recruiting people from other states such as Plateau, Nasarawa and Abuja without given slots to the host community.

Angry with the development, some Lokoja residents stormed the University on Wednesday for a protest.

But, where dispersed by armed policemen who were alleged to have been drafted to the scene by the University Vice Chancellor, Mrs. Angela Miri Freeman, a professor.

Mr. Audu, a 400 level student in the faculty of Social Sciences, speaking to WEST AFRICA REPORTERS (WAR) via a telephone conversation, said two of the protesters were seriously injured.

He narrated that the police fired life bullets and tear gas at the protesters causing the fatal injury of two persons and living some with minor wounds.

Audu said the university has suspended lectures indefinitely, despite the second semester examinations that are commencing in two weeks time.

WAR found not immediately reach out to the university management for a response as at the time of filing this report.
