Despite fund release, UBEC abandons N20 million Abia state Ahiaba-Ubi school project

The N20 million Abia state Ahiaba – Ubi primary school project has been abandoned, and this is even as fund has been advanced for the project since three years ago.

The project is meant for the construction of three classroom blocks at Ahiaba-Ubi Primary School in Isiala-Ngwa North Local Government Area of Abia state.

Universal Basic Education (UBEC), commenced the school construction since 2016 and fund has been released for the project.

Udeme team who was at the school to monitor project implementation, said the project has since been abandoned, while the school has continued to be in a dilapidated condition.

When MAWA Foundation sought the explanation of UBEC regarding the abandoned project, the Commission said , it is not responsible for the construction and renovation of schools but rather the responsibility of Abia State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB). It added that it only intervenes through the release of matching grants to states through SUBEB’s for such purpose. It further directed MAWA Foundation to send an email with details of complain to

A senior official of UBEC who spoke to MAWA and did not want his name mentioned because he has no authority to speak concerning the issue, say UBEC is notorious for abandoning projects.
