Despite recording two deaths, Bello Kogi gov says yesterday bye-election was free fair credible, asks other states to emulate kogi politics

Mr. Yahaya Bello the kogi state governor has showed appreciation to the people of Kogi State for the yesterday bye election.

Bello said the election conducted in the Lokoja/Kogi Koton Karfe Federal Constituency was free fair and credible, and has asked other states to emulate kogi kind of politics, Petra Akinti Onyegbule, the Chief Press Secretary to Bello said in a press statement released in Lokoja today.

The yesterday election was conducted to fill the seat of the constituency following the death of Umar Buba Jubril on March 30, 2018.

In the election, APC candidate, Alhaji Haruna Isah, won with 26,860 votes while his opponent, the Peoples Democratic Party candidate got 14,845 votes to become second in the contest.

As a result of the victory, Bello, his chief of staff Edward Onoja and and other political appointees staged a party to show how happy they were having won the election.

Bello, said their win is a well deserved victory, this is even as violence, killings and ballot snatching marred the exercise.

We played by the finest democratic traditions, Bello said, explaining how they filled in the best candidate and had the best campaign ever.

Although two deaths, and cases of rampant violence were recorded, Bello said opposition was behind the violence. I will make sure perpetrators are fished out and made to face justice, he added.

Bello thanked Muhammadu Buhari and Acting President Yemi Osinbajo for felicitating credible election in Nigeria.
