Electricity distribution company allegedly demands N1 million bribe to power community

BEDC, an electricity distribution company has been alleged to have demanded the sum of N1 million bribe from community before a completed rural electrification project can be powered on.

Residents of Ogbe Agbaneshumu community in Akoko Edo Local Government Area of Edo State, said they have not been able to have light since the completion of its rural electrification project in the area 2018 because they refused to give N1 million bribe to BEDC.

They, however, alleged that the distribution company officials demanded they give N1 million bribe before the completed rural electrification project can be powered to give light to the community.

MAWA Foundation could not immediately reach out to BEDC for a response as calls made to their official telephone number were neither answered nor returned.

Tracka, a public accountability organization that exposed the corruption has since appealed to Mr. Godwin Obaseki, the Edo state governor to intervene and address the issue.
