Mr. Bello Matawallen, the new Zamfara governor, has spent a whopping sum of N83 million to purchase 750 cows for the celebration of Eid-El-Fitr celebrations.
Mr. Idris Gusau, the governor spokesman, in a statement disclosed that the cows will be shared among the poor including the internally displaced persons.
Gusau said the gesture is part of the governor’s effort in improving the people welfare.
The new governor used the opportunity to appeal to the people of the state to pray for peace and stability in the state.
Bandits on Sunday opened fire on the governor convoy on his way back from Lilo, a community in Gusau Local Government Area of the state.
Although government official has since denied the report the government security details were the ones that chased them bandits to the bush and made way for the governor to pass.
Mr. Bello Matawalle, the new Zamfara state Governor has been attacked on Sunday by suspected bandits.
His convoy was attacked when returning from Gusau Local Government, where he went to pay a condolence visit to survivors of bandits attacks.
Witnesses narrated how the bandits open fire on the governor along Lilo road.
The governor had earlier said he will deal with bandits and ensure they are prosecuted and face justice.
Bandits on Saturday attacked and killed eight persons in Lilo, a community that is few kilometers away from Gusau, the state capital.
An attack that the governor has gone to condole with survivors
A source says the governor security detail resisted the attack and pushed the bandits back to the bush.
However, Mr. Yusuf Idris, the Governor press secretary, told Premium Times an online newspaper that the governor led security operatives to chase out bandits from their hideouts in the forests.
