The Nigeria Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Justice have budgeted the sum of N5.6 billion for zonal constituency projects, an action the country anti graft agency, Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission has questioned as a fraud, pointing out that the ministries cannot be seen to be implementing constituency projects.
ICPC disclosed this at a roundtable in its “My Constituency, My Project” initiative.
Mr. Rasheedat Okoduwa, the anti graft spokesman, said the commission made the discovery and has since questioned the motive behind it.
The anti graft agency pointed out that while the Ministry of Foreign Affairs inserted N2.9 billion in its 2019 budget for the execution of zonal constituency projects, the Ministry of Justice budgeted N2.7 billion for the same.
A practice the anti graft agency has since said is a huge abnormality that happens in Nigeria.
The anti graft agency wondered why constituency projects funds meant for development intervention in rural communities will be found in ministries of Justice and foreign affairs.
Okoduwa, say the two ministries are not the only offender, pointing out how other ministries and and agencies who have no business with constituency projects are inserting budget provision for the same purpose.
