A Nigeria Senator Joshua Lidani, representing the people of Gombe South Senatorial District, may have allowed his constituency to be cheated.
Lidani, in 2018, through the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology nominated the sum of N30 million for the construction of solar power boreholes at Dadiya community in Gombe South Senatorial District.
An amount that has already been allocated for the project since last year.
Despite the allocation, Mr. Ilevbaoje Uadamen, Head, Tracka told WEST AFRICA REPORTERS (WAR) in a telephone that their team visited Dadiya community, where the project was cited and discovered a hand pump borehole was constructed instead of solar power borehole, that was originally nominated and funds released.
A borehole driller spoken to told (WAR) that drilling a manual hand borehole averages between N300k and N350k while solar power borehole in Abuja averages N850k.
That amount is enough to provide manual borehole in the entire local government he added.
Checks by WAR with other drillers show that amount is outrageous, Mr. John Agi, who says he owns a borehole drilling company in Abuja, says that amount can provide 30 motorised boreholes.
Constituency project funds are intervention funds giving to Lawmakers to carry out development projects in their communities targeting the rural dwellers with the poor and the vulnerable at the centre of consideration.
Nigeria practice has shown this practice is often abused as Lawmakers simply get the money and divert it with blatant impunity and rascality.
