How Katsina state government distributed COVID-19 palliatives to only party members

The Katsina State Government has been caught in the act of distributing COVID-19 palliatives to only the party loyal members, MAWA Foundation has uncovered.

That palliative that is fourth  round in the state were distributed among party loyalists.

Tracka, a public accountability organisation tracking the COVID-19 palliatives and funds, has since uncovered the ill practice that is been carried out by the Katsina state in the sharing of COVID-19 palliatives.

A Tracka official who spoke to MAWA Foundation, narrated how the state carried out the act.

Under the deal, the state created distribution committees across the  local governments. All the committee members are politicians while they are headed by the local council chairman with politicians coordinating distribution.

The distribution pattern is, in each of the ward, five to six influential politicians are selected from a polling unit and given palliative while none party members get nothing.

This is even as the palliatives comprising bags of rice, garri, packets of sugar and salt as well as cartons of spaghetti and indomie,
were donated to the state government by CACOVID, and other organizations.

Each of the beneficiaries got a carton of indomie, a pack of salt, sugar, a bag of rice and garri.

Mr. Sani Ahmed, a Katsina resident while speaking to MAWA Foundation,  said the COVID-19 palliatives were distributed to party loyalist, pointing out that those who are not partisan politicians got nothing.

Another resident, Mr. Farouk Isah, told MAWA Foundation that the distribution were done at the ward level and those who benefited were core party loyalists.

MAWA Foundation could not immediately reach out to the Katsina state government for a response, however, a senior government official who spoke to MAWA, said the palliatives were distributed to party loyalists mainly at the ward level.
