Lauretta Onochie, a media aide to Mr. Muhammadu Buhari, Nigeria president is caught in the act of deliberate spreading of fake news.
In her latest fake news that has since been discovered, she shared a picture of take away plastic plate containing rice and N500 on top.
In the picture, Lauretta said Mr. Atiku Abubakar, the candidate of the People Democratic Party (PDP) for the 2019 presidential election distributed money and food at the party rally that took place in Sokoto on Monday.
She made the claim via her tweeter handle.
However, checks and analysis of the picture by WEST AFRICA REPORTERS (WAR) shows that the picture is fake and is intended to deceive the public.
Unfortunately, Nigerians who do not have the capacity to identify fake news have since shared the pictures and are helping in spreading the fake news.
The picture analysis revealed that the picture first surfaced online in 2017 when a Non-governmental organisation based in Lagos that is into charity work carried out an event.
Google analysis of the picture shows it was also used when a Nollywood actor visited the an orphanage home.
Worse still, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) government Lauretta works for frowns at fake news and has made commitment to deal with anyone spreading fake news.
How the APC treats Lauretta spread of fake news will determine how serious the state is in addressing fake news.
