Mr. Yahaya Bello, Kogi state Governor has denied owing workers salaries, but said backlogs of salaries owed to the workers were incurred by the past administration.
He also promised to pay all outstanding salaries in the state before December.
Bello while speaking to journalists in Kaduna at the Northern State Governors Forum, NSGF disclosed that his administration did not incur any debt through the non-payment of salaries due to workers since he assumed office.
He pointed out that salaries owed to workers are the ones incurred by the past administration.
All workers have been paid in the state Bello said, all those who passed the state screening exercise have been paid their salaries to date, he added.
Although Mr. Muhammadu Buhari, the Nigeria president approved N50 billion intervention fund for Kogi state, due to my prudence, I only withdrew N20 billion, Bello said.
He challenged those who think the money was diverted to check the pages of national dailies for details of how the money was spent
As soon as the federal government releases the remaining N30.8 billion, I will clear the arrears, the governor added.
“What is owed by the previous administration is exactly what is owed now.
Under my watch, I m not owing a single dine but inherited liability which Mr. President has approved money for it to be cleared.
