I was held hostage, forced to announce Okorocha winner, returning officer

Mr. Ibeabuchi Izuchukwu Innocent, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) returning officer has said he was held hostage for days and was forced to declare Mr. Rochas Okorocha, the outgoing governor of Imo State winner of Imo West Senatorial District Senate seat.

Mr. Ibeabuchi said he declared Okorocha winner at the Orlu collation centre INEC office, under serious duress.

The returning officer said he was held hostage by Okorocha supporters who force him to announce him the winner of the election.

Okorocha, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress has since been declared the winner of the election.

In the result declared, Okorocha won 10 of the total 12 Local Government Areas making him the ‘winner’ of the elections.

Mr. Okorocha stormed the collation centre with policemen chasing Journalists and observers away.

Party agents are already demanding from the returning officer to explain why said he declared Okorocha winner under duress.
