INEC sacks three staff, arraign three lecturers for rigging 2019 election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) In Akwa Ibom state Nigeria has sacked three of its staff following their involvement in fraudulent activities during the 2019 general elections in the state.

This was revealed by the state’s Resident Electoral Commissioner Mike Igini who also stated that four lecturers who were Ph.D. holders, as well as professors, have also been arraigned for the same offence which he termed grievous.

Mike speaking during an interview on Tuesday said their actions have undermined the integrity of INEC saying he will continue to stand for a free fair and credible election.

He described the fear affiliated with his name as sheer panic knowing he will always stand for integrity.

While analyzing the issue, Mr.Sam Amadi, a law lecturer with Base university Abuja and a policy analyst says the commission is in the right direction and that such stringent actions against offenders will deter others.

Amadi added that the officers were relied on for carrying out a free fair and credible election but proved to be with no integrity.

He also said that the Independent Electoral Commission should be allowed to cancel results that have proven to be compromised.
