The detention of Mr. Sanusi Lamido, dethroned Emir of Kano at Awe area of Nasarwa state has been voided by the court on Friday.
A Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, the Nigerian capital city ordered the immediate release of Sanusi.
Lamido who was dethroned on Monday by Ganduje, the Kano state Governor was banished from Kano and was taken to Awe in Nasarawa state where he has been under captivity on the directive of government, providing security men who guard him from escaping.
Mr. Anwuli Chikere, the presiding Judge gave the order following an ex parte application moved by his lead counsel, Mr. Lateef Fagbemi, a senior lawyer.
Sanusi had on Thursday dragged
the Inspector-General of Police, Muhammed Adamu; the Director-General of the Department of State Service, Yusuf Bichi; the Attorney-General of Kano State, Ibrahim Muktar, and the Attorney-General of the Federation, Mr. Abubakar Malami to court, challenging his detention after been dethroned as the Emir.
The case has been adjourned to March 26 for another hearing.
