Kano Hizbah Board goes after couples who met on Facebook, declare them wanted

Kano Hizbah has shown anger over couples who met on Facebook and got married. The state Hizba has since declared Mr. Sanusi Abdullahi and his wife wanted.

Abdullahi had in a Facebook group disclosed how he met a lady on Facebook and married her. 

He said the lady proposed to him while he likes her and eventually married her as his wife.

Abdullahi further made the disclosure to BBC Hausa service.

He narrated to BBC and how his wife to proposed to him to marry her, a proposal he said he accepted. He shared how he made an arrangement with his friend and paid N20, 000 dowries.

He disclosed that they consulted some Islamic scholars after the marriage.

“We made some inquiries and some ulamas confirmed the marriage, saying all the prerequisites of marriage were fulfilled. But when we contacted Sheikh Ibrahim Daurawa, he said the marriage was invalid since there was no consent of parents of the bride,” he added.

The parents of my wife have since shown anger over the marriage, according to them, there are other better men who wanted to marry their daughter, and wondered why their daughter will simply marry on Facebook, Abdullahi said.

Confirming the development, Mr. Sanusi Muhammad, the spokesman of Kano State Shari’ah Commission, said they have instructed the state Hizbah board to arrest the couples  in order to serve as a deterrent to others, describing their action as against the Shari’ah

“What they did is against the dictates of Shari’ah and the next line of action after their arrest is to arraign them before a court of law for prosecution,” he said.
