Communities residents in Katsina have continued to explain how they contribute and pay monthly fees to bandits so they do not get attacked by the group.
Mr. Muttaqha Darma, who confirmed the development to Africa Independent Television (AIT), said communities residents give bandits the sum of N150,000 every monthly to prevent attacks.
Darma added that in some instances, the residents pay higher than the amount, depending on their negotiating ability with the bandits.
However, Darma disclosed that some of the residents who cannot pay the charged fees have since deserted their homes, while those who refused to desert theirs constantly come under bandit attacks.
Residents who pay the fees are mainly in Faskari Local Government Area with the communities identified as Unguwar Tsamiya, Birnin Kogo, Bangi, Kahi, and Raba.
Darma pointed out that Raba residents who could not sustain payment of the agreed fees due to high demands from different camps of bandits have since fled their homes because of repeated attacks.
Mr. Ibrahim Katsina, the Special Assistant on Security to Aminu Masari, the Katsina State governor, while confirming the development, said that was happening in the past, pointing out their administration has put the practice to an end.
He, however, appealed to the residents to return to their respective homes, assuring them of adequate security of their lives and properties.
He also placed a demand on the residents to collaborate with the security men in the fight against insecurity.
