Katsina NYSC officials summon an emergency meeting hours corps members protested 10 months owed allowance

The Katsina state chapter of the National Youth Corps (NYSC) has summoned an emergency meeting barely eight hours the corps members protested their 10 months allowance owe them by the government.

In a circular signed by Mr. A Kabir, the Katsina NYSC local Government Inspector (LGI) dated the 1st day of July; all Medical and Paramedical corps members serving within Katsina LGA have been summoned for a meeting on Thursday, the 2nd day of July at the Transit camp, by GRA, Katsina state.

Part of the meeting circular reads: Sequel to the above subject matter, this is to bring to the notice of all corp members concern that there will be an emergency meeting with the LGI scheduled in July at Venue- Transit camp, by GRA, Katsina by 8:00 am.

Earlier, WAR reported how the NYSC members in Katsina on Wednesday, stormed the street protesting non-payment of their 10 months allowances.

The corps members who matched on some major street of Katsina, the state capital said they have been owed 10 months allowances by the government.

The members are mainly medical doctors, Pharmacists, Medical Laboratory Scientists, Nurses, and Radiographers among others.

They were seen on the street chanting solidarity songs, carrying placards with different inscriptions asking the government to pay them their allowances.

They say that the Katsina state government owes them 10 moths allowance starting from September 2019.

The corps members who stormed the state government house were addressed by Mr. Nuhu Danja, the State Commissioner for Health, who promised their allowances, be paid.

Hours after the protest, a corps member who spoke to WAR from Katsina, said they have received a circular from the NYS officials inviting them for a meeting on Thursday.

The serving corps member, however, told WAR,

the meeting in connection to the protest carried out by the NYSC members asking for their 10 months allowances owe them by the government be paid.
