Following the recent attacks on St. Peter’s parish in Makurdi, the Benue state capital, the Catholic bishop of Makurdi diocese has suspended all pastoral activities in the parish until further notice.
Mr.Wilfred Anangbe made this known through the diocesan deputy director, Mr. James Utav to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
He says the attack was a desecration of the Holy Eucharist and looting of sacred vessels.
Wilfred said the suspension of activities is in line with the Canon 1211 of the parish adding that the period will be used for the cleansing of the parish and preparation for penance as well as repair of the injury on the sacred body of Christ.
It will be recalled that the parish on two several occasions (13th August/13th September) was attacked by unknown men who caused damage to items, desecrated the holy place, and made away with other valuables.
