Months of owed salaries, Kogi Varsity lecturer sumps, dies

Mr. Jamiu Abdullahi, a Lecturer at the Kogi state University Anyigba has slum and died.

Abdullahi, a lecturer at the Department of Arabic and Islamic Studies, was alleged to have died because of his inability to treat his illness because he is been owed months of salaries by the stage government.

This newspaper learned he slumped and died of High Blood Pressure.

He died at the hospital while waiting for the result of his medical test.

Insider source from the family disclosed that Abdullahi died because of his inability to treat his illness because he is been owed months of salaries by the government of Mr. Yahaya Bello, the state Governor.

The family source disclosed that the last time Abdullahi was paid salary was  February this year.

We could not take him for treatment because there is no money to do that. Salaries were not paid to him and he died out of the predicament.

“It is unfortunate that the drug that was prescribed for him by his doctor could not be bought because we could not raise anything. And the situation got worsened yesterday at about 2pm when he died,” he said.

Mr. Abdullahi has since been buried in his hometown at Iyamoye in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State.

Mr. Jacob Edegbo, the institution spokesperson has since confirmed the death, describing it as unfortunate, but however denied that he died as a result of non payment of salaries.

” Late Dr Abdullahi has been sick for some time. When he went to the hospital for check-up, before the result came out, he gave up the ghost.” he said.
