National Assembly stops plan electricity tariff increase, say it’s insensitive

The Nigerian National Assembly has stopped the planned electricity tariff increase describing it as insensitive and untimely.

Mr. Ahmad Ibrahim Lawan, the Senate President on Monday led members of the National Assembly to a meeting with the Chief Executive of government electricity regulatory body and electricity Distribution Companies across the country.

Lawn who disclosed this via his official twitter handle @DrAhmadLawan said in the meeting, all parties agreed to put a stop to the planned electricity tariff scheduled to commence by the first week of July.

“Between now and the first quarter of next year, our task will be to work together with the Discos to ensure that we put those blocks in place to support the eventual increase in tariffs”.

“The government has been doing a lot as part of its obligations to provide some form of the Interventions. I’m quite aware that for this year, probably starting from last year, over N600 billion was earmarked for this sector to improve”.
