Mr. Martins Owerem, an officer of the Nigerian air force has been dismissed for raping a 14 year internally displaced girl.
The army court Marshall tried him and found him guilty and dismissed him.
The army officer was found guilty of raping the girl in 2018 when he was in charge of the special force battalion, close to Bakassi IDP camp, in Maiduguri.
The officer was found guilty of defilement, assault and disobedient to military standards of operation and rules of engagement.
Mr. Aminu Mairuwa, the prosecution counsel, told the court how the officer while on a patrol September 29 last year arrested some girls who went to fetch firewood.
The counsel told the court how the officer dragged one of the girls into the bush and raped her.
Mr. Abbas Abba, the accused defence counsel appeal to the court to have pity on the officer for the sake of his selfless service in the fight against insurgency.
Having examined the evidence before it, the court found the officer guilty of rape and assault.
The trial judge also passed a verdict ordering for the dismissal of the officer from service.
