The Nigerian state has asked for Mr. Walter Onnoghen, her chief justice to account be frozen. The country asked the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) to freeze Onnoghen accounts.
The accounts the federal government wants to be frozen are five, the attorney-general of the federation said the accounts will be frozen until the determination of the case against Onnoghen at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).
The state demand is premised on the Presidential Executive order No. 6 that came into effect on July 5, 2018.
Some of the accounts are domiciled with the Standard Chartered Bank.
Mr. Abubakar Malami, the country Attorney General has in a letter asked that the CJN accounts should be frozen in pursuant to the Presidential Executive Order No. 6 of 2018.
The Nigerian Chief Justice is facing trial on the allegations of his false assets declaration.
A case the country decided to pursue after Mr. Dennis, a former aide to Buhari wrote a petition against the CJN accusing him of corruption.
Onnoghen was charged to court on Monday but, he refused to appear before the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) to face trial.
