Mr. Osagie Ehanire, the Nigerian Minister of Health has said he is not aware doctors in the frontline combating the coronavirus disease are not been paid hazard allowance, pointing out they are doing their normal duty and do not need to be paid such allowance.
The minister made this known when he appeared before the National Assembly with members of coronavirus Presidential Taskforce on Thursday.
Asked by Mr. Femi Gbahabiamila, the Speaker House of Representatives, if the doctors in the frontline combating the coronavirus disease are been paid their hazard allowance.
The minister responding to the question said he is not aware the doctors are been paid hazard allowance, pointing out that they are doing their routine duty and there is no problem if they are not been paid hazard allowance.
”I am not aware of it. It is a standard job they do every day” the minister said.
Worse still, the Nigerian doctors have kicked against the government paying them N5000 as hazard allowance.
A development that was part of the reason, Abuja medical doctors last month embarked on an indefinite strike.
