Mr. Richard Akindele, a lecturer at the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) who demanded sex from a female student, Monica Osagie, to award her marks has been jailed for two years.
A federal high court sitting at Osogbo, the Osun state capital handed the verdict.
Akindele was charged to court by Nigerian anti-graft agency the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) for demanding sex from a female student to award her marks.
In April this year, an audio surfaced online where Akindele voice was heard demanding five round of sex from Monica before she can pass her course or risk failing the course.
The judge of the court, Maurine Onyetenu, who presided over the case, convicted the lecturer. Passing the verdict, the judge said, it important to send him to prison to serve as a lesson to other university lecturers who intimidate students into having sex with them before they can pass their course.
The judge ordered that he be taking to Ilesa prison to serve the jail term.
This is even as his employer, the OAU had dismissed him by June this year after a panel set to investigate the case found him guilty.
