Osun community residents lament as govt abandons PHC hospital

Residents of the Okefia area of Osun State are lamenting over government abandonment of a Primary Health Care (PHC) hospital in their community.

Residents while showing their frustration over the abandoned hospital, told the Urban Alert team who visited the community that they are finding it very difficult to access healthcare delivery while appealing to the Osun State government to fix the hospital.

This is even as the Osun State government in the year 2020 had N82.2 billion as its annual budget with the sum of N9 billion set aside for COVID-19, a move Mr. Gboyega Oyetola, the state governor said was to ensure the provision of adequate healthcare across communities.

Good as this sounds, the Okefia residents are yet to see it manifests in their community as the only Primary Healthcare in the area has since been abandoned over a long period of time.

Okefia is not an exception, across Nigerian communities there is a huge healthcare delivery deficit leaving residents to die over illnesses that can easily be treated.

While some trek many kilometers to access healthcare, some do not have any form of healthcare delivery at all, leading to huge infant and maternal mortality.
