Police shot dead election observer in Enugu state

A domestic election observe has been reportedly shot dead by a police officer at Umuida village in Enugu Ezike, Igbo-Eze north local government area of Enugu state.

The observer was shot at a Polling Unit close to Mr. Ayogu Eze, All Progressives Congress Enugu state governorship candidate house.

Mr. Ebere Amarizu, a spokesperson of Enugu state police command, has since confirmed the incident.

Amarizu said the shooting was not deliberate, attributing the incident to accidental discharge.

The deceased was taken to St Mary’s Hospital in Enugu Ezike where he died.

The observer was said to have had an argument with a police officer who pulled the trigger and shot him dead.

Miss. Oge who gave only her first name in a telephone conversation confirmed the incident but could not give detail of what transpired to WEST AFRICA REPORTERS (WAR).
