Resident of Keffi area in Nasarawa state are groaning over the high cost of bread in the market, Media Advocacy west Africa Foundation has learned.
A visit to Romantic bakery revealed that the rise in the price of flour necessitated the increase adding that it was impossible to maintain the initial price and still make profit.
A salesgirl at the bakery added that they no longer entertain the number of customers they use to have before because people prefer to buy a cheaper loaf they can afford not minding the quality.
Another bread seller who spoke to MAWA said the patronage has not been encouraging due to the rise noting that some bread are not presently in the market because the bakers can no longer afford to produce.
Mr. Chibuike, a customer in one of the shops disclosed that he is a lover of bread, but said the rate at which the price has gone up might force him take a break from eating it.
He called on the government to do something about it because the masses are dying of hunger.
