Mr. Razak Atunwa, a Federal Lawmaker, representing the people of Asa/Ilorin West Federal Constitution and the People Democratic Party (PDP) flag bearer for 2019 governorship election has been caught in an act that appears he may have shortchanged his people.
Razak had in the 2017 budget, nominated the sum of N15 million, a deal he said will be used for the construction of a three-kilometer road in Asa Local Government Area of Kwara state.
Check by Elites Network for Sustainable Development, a civil society group working to promote positive engagement of the citizenry towards ensuring sustainable development shows Razak may not have executed the project he nominated in 2017.
A senior official of the group told WEST AFRICA REPORTERS (WAR) how the group has encountered difficulty in trying to ascertain the project implementation status.
He narrated to this newspaper how the group has made efforts to uncover the location where the projects nominated by Razak is been sited.
When the group sought the explanation of the Energy Commission of Nigeria that is supposed to execute the three kilometers project, the commission referred them to the National Building & Road Research Institute saying the project has been transferred to the Institute together with the released funds.
He narrated their difficulty in locating the institute office, saying all efforts made to contact the institute has failed as we cannot locate their office, he told this newspaper.
However, Tracka official told WAR, the project was not executed and cannot be found, our tracker team searched all over the Local Government where Razak said the project will be sited and found no project on the ground.
A local source, Joy Ojo, who claims to have a good knowledge of Asa Local Government area in a phone conversation told this newspaper, there is no such project in the local government. Do not bother yourself looking for the project, politicians often carry out this kind of scam in the name of a constituency project, she added.
WEST AFRICA REPORTERS (WAR) did not immediately reach out to Razak for an explanation.
