The Roman Catholic has expelled Mr.
Theodore McCarrick for an alleged sex scandal.
The Vatican said on Friday that he was alleged to have engaged in a sexual abuse of minors.
McCarrick, is the first Roman Catholic prelate in almost 100 years to lose the title of cardinal.
This was made known ahead of a meeting at the Vatican between the heads of national Catholic churches to discuss the global sexual abuse crisis.
Although McCarrick appealed the decision, he lost out as Pope Francis has approved his expulsion from the catholic church.
He is said to have been committed the offence 50 years ago.
Reacting, McCarrick said he cannot remember committing the alleged offence.
