Joseph Israel, a 100 level student of the Taraba state university has been summoned to appear before the school disciplinary committee for criticising the state Governor and the university Vice Chancellor, Daily Nigeria an online newspaper is reporting.
The university considers the Medical Lab Science department student Facebook post insulting.
He is to appear before the committee next week Monday.
A source close to Israel narrated how he constantly receives threats over his boldness to speak his mind.
Some of the students have told him to be careful concerning his strong worded post on Facebook.
He has since been invited through a
short message (SMS), that reads, “Notice!!! Pls kindly take notice that you are required to appear before the TSUJ Students Malpractice Committee on Monday, 15th July, 2019 at the DVC Admin’s office by 9:00am to respond to allegations of Misconduct reported against your person. Tnx. Secretary.”
Worse still, the student has exam on the day he is summoned to appear before the committee when he is supposed to be reading.
Daily Nigerian said that acheck on Israel’s wall shows the student is critical of the PDP administration, but supports All Progressive Congress, APC, and President Muhammadu Buhari in his posts.
The university asked Israel to print all his Facebook posts from January and bring it along with him when coming to appear before the committee.
Mr. Ahmed Farooq, the committee secretary confirming the invitation said, he was invited to clarify some allegations he made against some persons.
“He has made a series of Facebook posts on his timeline, which the school deemed inappropriate for a student of the university to do, Farooq said.
“He who asserts must prove. So we give him the right to fair-hearing and invited him to prove the allegations he made,” Mr Farooq added.
