Mr. Imran Ahmad-Alkanci, was yesterday killed in Sokoto as a result of violence that erupted from the attack of Mr. Aminu Tambuwal, the state governor.
The state police command confirmed the attack saying the deceased died as a result of stray bullets fired when some youth suspected to be thugs, attacked the governor.
Cordelia Nwawe, the police spokesperson, in addition, confirmed one other person that was injured in the attack is receiving treatment in the hospital.
According to NAN, the main opposition party the People Democratic Party (PDP) organized a reception rally to welcome the state governor, who recently failed in the party primaries in the bid up to the 2019 presidential election.
The event turned out to be violent as armed thugs destroyed billboards and cars that have the All Progressives Congress (APC)PDP posters on them.
Mr. Sani Abdullahi told WEST AFRICA REPORTERS (WAR) in a phone conversation that a vehicle on the route from Sokoto to Bodinga was burnt by thugs at the Sokoto State University because it has an APC sticker on it.
Mr. Hassan Danladi told this newspaper, the violence was so intense that the governor convoy was forced to stop along Gawon Nama, near the residence of senator Aliyu Wamakko. It was at that point that armed thugs attacked the governor, he disclosed. If not the presence of the security men, many would have died he added.
