The Nigerian army said it has killed 46 bandits at Yar Gamji community in Batsari Local Government Area of Katsina State on Tuesday.
The Defence Headquarters said the operation was carried out by the newly launched Operation SAHEL SANITY.
Mr. John Enenche, Coordinator Defence Media Operations in a statement, said some of the bandits escaped with bullet wounds.
He, however, added that the army received a distress call from the residents on Tuesday which made them moved in to confront the bandits, killing 46 of them.
“The troops of Nigerian Army Super Camp 4 Faskari Operation SAHEL SANITY on 6 Jul 2020 received a distress call of the invasion of armed bandits in Yar Gamji town in Batsari LGA” Enenche said.
Enenche, however, appealed to the public to disregard news from online media saying people are been killed in Katsina, describing the news as fake targeted at misinforming the people.
Mr. Yusufu Buratai, Nigeria’s Chief of Army has since congratulated the soldiers for what he described as a brave and successful operation.
