The Zamfara state police command says it lost 16 officers to bandits Thursday last week.
In a statement on Wednesday, Mr. Muhammad Shehu, the police spokesperson, confirmed the death, saying Mr Ibrahim Idris, the police inspector-general has condoled with the families of the deceased.
The state police command on Friday said it killed 104 armed bandits at Birnin Magaji local government area of Zamfara state, but refused to disclosed it lost 16 of its men.
16 of our men were found dead during a search operation after the gun battle with bandits, the police spokesperson said in a released statement.
The death of the officers is a huge lost to the police and Nigerian state. The supreme price they paid for the security and safety of their country will not be in vain, Shehu said.
